13:20 It's so weird hearing Churchill's actual voice, since we are all used to the baritone register of the person doing the Parliament rebroadcasts.

Percy Hobart is the man responsible for the design of the blitzkrieg tank attack! Rommel and Guderian studied Hobarts books on the use of tanks in combat and carried translations of his papers with them at all times. Ironicthat the brits didn’t believe in using tank formations in battle until they saw first hand how Hobart’s tactics worked in real combat.

The second half of this episode is disgusting; completely dedicated to justify US crimes against humanity and civilians. Yes, imperial Japanese were needed to be stopped, but murdering hundreds of thousands of civilians had to be the tactic to achieve that result? The narrator keeps emphasizing that Japanese had no regard for human life while mentioning the horrible kamikaze tactics but he completely disregards the disregard American leadership displayed when it comes to the others (civilians, or rather Asians, in this case). When I was a kid I loved these docus but now that I'm almost 40 it's easy to catch the sometimes explicit sometimes implicit American propaganda this documentary conveys. As a series it has no value today, besides its nostalgic value, which is apparent in the comment section, and it needs to go in the trash bin.

Considering the Germans knew about Market-Garden in general terms 5 days before the start, the outcome is not a surprise. Student however could have kept the Port of Antwerp inoperable until the start of the Battle of the Bulge. He avoided simular fate as Monty until today. My forumname on the Axis-forum is A.C.E. van T. And if you type 1.Fallschirmarmee Axis-forum you'll find about the 1 Belgian spy who gave away the plans for 'Garden'. I gave away the 2nd spy from London in december 2023 last year at IJsselstein during a book presentation about Student who gave away the extent of 'Market'. I don't have a degree as a historian. I just wanted to know to find out about the Dutch Resistance Group my Granddad belonged to, and about the German units they had to face as the never received any credit. One of them was a Company of Fallschirmjäger Regiment 6 under indirect Allied command behind enemy lines for 6 days. The other one was MEK40 the successor of MEK65 and 60, the German equivalent of the British Royal Marines Commandos, who where in action since Normandy attacking Pegasus & Horsa bridges and just prior Market-Garden against the bridges at Beringen, Kruisschanssluis at Antwerp, Joe's Bridge near Neerpelt and after against the Waal bridges at Nijmegen.

"unofficially" (against orders ?) aimed to be converged at 250 yards. Yeah, why 650 yards. Thats for straffing ground targets in training, heck they aren't (fast ) moving Use a mix of HE, AP and incendiary/tracer... AP to hurt a hard target, HE to hurt a medium target, fire to hurt a soft target. If you just used AP, it would go through the plane, and then the tracer would just hit the armour. But with the HE in the mix, the armour got blown away, the holed armour would let the HE's explosion rip the armour away and help distribute fire from fuel and oil the AP let free.

Army Group A had several 100 mile long columns. They attacked Luxembourg on the 10th, the Royal family fled to France that afternoon. On the 12th they surprised(?) France along the Meuse near Sedan. Why was France surprised? The Lux Royal family didn't tell them about the direction of the German divisions? Nobody in Lux or Belgium said anything? Weren't the Allies curious about their location for two full days? How do you lose 100 mile long columns? Did they assume the Germans came to have picnics in the Ardennes?

Castle Archdale, Fermanagh is the place to visit, as great museum, where the Canadian flying boats took off on lough Erne and spotted the Bismark which was sunk. Out there hunting u boats, as really the north west of ireland was the main route for everything from Canada and later USA. All the U boats surrendered in Derry and many canadian airmen buried in a graveyard in nearby Irvinestown as often got the landing wrong, with the brightness of the sun, a rare event here, shining on the water. My father was in the RAF, Enniskillen at the time, a short distance away and think he knew the Canadian crew men given the badges he obtained from them.

It's lost to history but D-Day is the 4th day of the Normandy landing time table. 1:01:49 , they were ready to go on the 3rd. Otherwise it would have been called A-Day or whatever day in the window.
